I was going through some books I have read and went over some paragraphs that I had highlighted. In the book Nunca Entres por Miami there is an interesting part that thought we all should read:
"... let's think about it: Who is the immigrant? The immigrant is an exceptional human being, he/she is a courageous person that get into unknown paths, moved by an interior force: the will to become a better person, for him and his people. That is why the immigrant does the job that the locals do not; and there is where the cliché started: that the immigrant takes jobs away from the locals. That is a lie, if in this country it is more comfortable for people to get pay for doing nothing, than doing something they do not like."
"...that is a cliché that is going away, that the immigrant comes to take jobs away. It is not true. Immigrants generate more jobs than the ones they take, and those jobs that take are the ones that the locals do not want. What would happen with the rich countries if all immigrants leave? They would collapse! Who would do the gruesome job at the low wages that the immigrants get paid? No one." (Quezada, 106)
This book is about a young man from Honduras living in NY who sends for his fiance. He asks her not to come through Miami, but she insists... and that is where all the fun starts.

Recien acabo de ver un libro que lei hace tiempo y derrepente vi unas marcas que deje de unos párrafos que me parecieron bastante interesantes. El libro se llama Nunca Entres por Miami. Lean lo siguiente:
"... pensemos: ¿Quién es el inmigrante? El inmigrante es un ser excepcional, es un valiente que se arriesga a un destino ignoto, movido por una fuerza interior insospechada: el deseo de superarse, para él y para los suyos. Por eso es que el inmigrante hace las tareas que no hace el nacional, y aquí tenemos una serie de mitos: que el inmigrante viene a quitar puestos de trabajo. Mentira, si aquí es más cómodo para las personas recibir dinero por no hacer nada, antes que hacer un trabajo que no les gusta."
"...es un mito que se va desvaneciendo, que el inmigrante viene a quitar puestos de trabajo. No es cierto, genera más de los que ocupa, y los puestos que ocupa no los quiere desempeñar el nacional. ¿Qué sería de los países ricos en el momento en que todos los inmigrantes se fueran? Colapsarían. ¿Quién haría el infausto trabajo y a los precios que los realiza el inmigrante? Nadie." (Quezada, 106)
El libro es un cuento acerca de un hondureño que vive en New York y manda a traer a la prometida. El le dice que no se venga por Miami, pero ello no escucha consejo. He ahi donde comienza la diversion.

1. National Geographic on its November 2004 issue published an article of 10 pages about the Mayan ceremonies that took place and still are performed in Guatemala. There are many good pictures.
La revista National Geographic en la edicion del mes de Noviember 2004 ha publicado un articulo acerca de las ceremonias mayas que se realizan en Guatemala. Contiene muchas fotos interesantes.
2. National Geographic ADVENTURE has published on its February 2005 issue an article about travelling to Guatemala. (4 pages)
...Guatemala is on the verge of a tourism breakthrough. How do we know? The Germans and Aussies are already there.
La revista National Geographic ADVENTURE ha publicado un articulo en la edicion de Febrero 2005 acerca de el resurgimiento del turismo en Guatemala. (4 páginas)
...Guatemala esta al borde de un salto adelante en turismo. ¿Cómo lo sabemos? Los alemánes y los australianos ya están ahi.
